The Mother Road: Route 66 Multimedia Project

We are The Mother Road, a Graduate Multimedia Thesis Project Team at California State University, East Bay in Hayward, CA.

Our project involves designing a multimedia experience of Historic Route 66. We are utilizing an actual car, a 1969 VW Bug as a physical interface to the computer application. Using computer monitors mounted near the windshield, users will interact with the car’s controls to navigate through 3D recreations of Route 66, view photos and maps, as well as experience audio and video information pertinent to the historic route.

Our project will utilize various technologies including Google Earth, Google SketchUp, the Wii, and Pure Data, among others. We have a deadline of June 2010 to complete the project.

We are actively seeking support and help from individuals, civic organizations, and businesses that wish to see continued interest in this historic route and the great American road trip. This support could come in many forms; from time, materials, vouchers, or sponsorship. Any contributions are greatly appreciated and can be classified as a tax write-off.

Thank you for taking the time to look over this material and your interest in The Mother Road. We are very excited about this project and hope it can contribute to the ongoing interest in historic Route 66 as a vital part of our American heritage.

Please contact us if you have any ideas or suggestions!
